Moodles
Moodles is a project I completed for my Bachelor of Design Innovation degree at Victoria University of Wellington and is one that I am very passionate about. I have always loved doodling and ever since finding my style, have wanted to transform it into something bigger.
The name Moodles is a blend of music, mood, and doodles — a reflection of the project’s playful and expressive nature. To celebrate and recognise the incredible talent of Aotearoa’s musicians, I set out to discover local musical gems to inspire my illustrations. Each poster features a maze of objects that visually represent what I see and feel while listening to the corresponding song, making every piece a unique and personal response to the music. I continue to develop this project in my spare time, purely for the joy of creating and exploring new ideas. Recently, I've also started branching out beyond Aotearoa’s music scene and am excited to continue connecting with a wider range of sounds to uncover their stories through illustration.

The idea was to create a series of posters that the viewer could colour in while simultaneously listening to the correlating song. Each illustration is inspired by the lyrics, album cover, genre of song and all round vibe of the music.

Each poster begins with a brainstorm and an initial sketch. I listen to the song on repeat, listening to the lyrics and feel of the music to gather the ideas I need to begin drawing my colouring page. I start the process with a pen and paper, mapping out the layout of each element to create a landscape for everything to exist in together.
